| IN TRAINING: Terras Under-18s |
WEYMOUTH Under-18s have been working hard in pre-season training in preparation for their first season in the South West Counties League.
Youth Development Officer and team manager Tim Davis and coaches Mick Lawrence, Nick Bennett, and former Terras' first-team captain Andy Harris have been putting the players through a tough fitness programme to ensure they will be able to cope with the rise in standard.
The squad has several new players in its ranks including Jamie Frampton, Ben Reiffer and Oliver Tribe, all currently training with the first team.
Others from outside Weymouth hoping to make the breakthrough include giant goalkeeper Jamie Beale from Sturminster Newton, central midfielder Tom Richardson from Northwood in Middlesex, striker Terngu Agera, who was at Ebbsfleet United, and county striker Charlie Tubbs from Swanage.
It is also hoped that former Arsenal and Dagenham & Redbridge midfielder Shola Dadson, ex-Gillingham and Leyton Orient midfielder Josh Smith and Thurrock midfielder Bostry Bansande will all soon be able to link up with the team. Add to that a mix of the best players coming through the club's youth system and it is envisaged that the squad will be very competitive.
Davis said: "Although we will be looking to have a good season in the league the most important role of any under-18 team at this level is to develop players for the first team.
"If they work hard and are good enough they now have a fantastic opportunity to play at the top level of non-League football.
"We are still on the lookout for a couple more quality players to complete the squad so if you would like to come training please give me a call on 07974885259 as soon as possible.
"We have several other pre-season matches lined up against the likes of Weston-Super-Mare, Sherborne Town and Bashley so everybody will get an opportunity to shine.
"We also have the FA Youth Cup to look forward to when we will play Christchurch away with the winners playing Bournemouth or Moneyfields at home in the next round."
The team is also looking for sponsorship from local companies. All kinds of packages are available from playing kit and equipment to individual players. For more details call 01305 785558
